Selection and Interview Criteria Procedures

Eligibility Criteria:

• U.S. Citizen/Permanent U.S. Resident
• Potential First Generation College Student
• Low Income
• 13 - 19 years of age
• 9th - 11th grade
• Demonstrate academic and/or cultural need
• 2.0 GPA (grade point average)

Requirements:

• Completed Upward Bound Application
• Parent Interest Form
• Medical Form
• School Records and Release Form
• Income Verification (W-2 or pay stub)
• Birth Certificate

Selection Process:
All admission materials will be reviewed and evaluated. Upon successful evaluation, the students will be contacted and scheduled for an interview. Parents are encouraged to attend this meeting.

We strongly encourage all candidates to wear proper interview attire. Students will be evaluated based on their essay, reference letter, appearance, and interview. Students and their given high school will be notified with the next 5 business days following their interview as to the panel's decision by letter or phone. Students will be ranked in sequential order as to how they are scored in the initial interview. Candidates who receive high scores will be placed on a waiting list in the event all vacancies are full. Students who were not selected are encouraged to reapply.
