Computer Labs

Requesting Software

Requests for software changes to all the computer labs for the next semester should be received 30 days before the previous semester ends. This deadline is strictly observed and is necessary so the software can be tested for compatibility and included on the disk image for that semester.

Requests for new software after that date which affect the disk images on the local hard drives will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. This policy is in place to ensure software reliability, consistency, and stability of the computer systems. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Adding or removing software from computer labs (PCs)
For installation of new software (or new versions), Technology Services must be provided with:

  • A copy of the software media (which Technology Services will keep)
  • Current license information
  • Installation instructions

The requesting faculty member is responsible for verifying correct software installation and configuration.

  • Technology Services personnel do not know the intended function of all software, and are therefore not able to verify proper function based upon class needs
  • Corrections to installation and configuration may take up to one week to complete after the initial problem report is received by Technology Services
  • Test lab computers will be made available in the Teaching Learning area 2nd floor for the convenience of the faculty; the faculty are invited to check the image and make sure that the software works properly

Make sure the equipment you wish the software installed on meets the software minimum system requirements.

If you are an instructor or faculty member, and you want your students to use the ICC labs to run software for their homework assignments, please consider the following issues:

You should know what software is currently available in the computer labs:

  • Software MasterList for the PCs (coming soon)
  • Software MasterList for the Macs (coming soon)

Don't assume that a software package will be available next semester:
You MUST request that the software be installed each academic year; otherwise it may be removed from the base load if another faculty member requests a newer version or if we are told by the department it is not needed.

Please check the following upgrades notes to see if the software you want will be added or removed in the upcoming semester.

Finally, you may need software in our labs that is not currently there. Sometimes faculty members provide us with their own software or software taken from textbooks. This software cannot be installed until licensing questions are researched and answered.

When adopting a new textbook, check out the "plugins." There are a limited number of computers on campus that will allow temporary installation of plugins.

Make sure that any software purchases are funded in the annual budget cycle.
