Computer Labs

Lab Rules

In order to allow everyone to have a similar enjoyable visit to the computer labs the following lab rules must be observed:

Classes and class work have priority

  • Computer labs that are reserved for class use will have schedules posted outside. The room will be available only during listed hours.
  • Academic use has priority over non-academic computing. Users engaged in non-academic computing may be asked to leave when the lab is full.
  • Computers left unattended will be rebooted by Lab Assistants. If you must leave the computer lab please log off so that others can use it.

Lab Assistants are available

  • If you have problems with a computer, need assistance with a software program, information on how to log on to the systems, or an explanation of the printing system do not hesitate to ask for help.
  • Lab Assistants are there for your safety. If an alarm sounds or an event occurs where they must intercede, please follow their instructions in a timely fashion.

Respect for Others

  • Noise should be kept to a minimum. The computer lab is a place for research, homework and studying. If you wish to engage in conversations or listen to music, please consider the persons around you and try to not distract them. Lab Assistants have authority to ask guests to reduce the noise, and if needed leave the lab.
  • Children in the lab may also be a distraction. Parents with younger children are responsible for their behavior. Children are not to be left in the lab while parents are not in the lab. If a child is creating a disturbance, the parent and child may be asked to leave.
  • Pagers and cellular telephones should be turned to silent mode. If a user must talk on the telephone, they should take the conversation outside of the lab.
  • Racial, Ethnic and Sexual harassment have become important factors in the workplace and educational communities. Viewing material on the web that may be offensive to others is just one example. Please be considerate of the people around you when viewing material on your computer. While academic freedom may mean it is necessary to view certain materials on the computer, it is possible that the same material may be offensive to others. Printing material that may be considered offensive may not be sent to the public printers.

Other Policies

  • No food, drink or tobacco is allowed in computer labs.
  • All files must be saved to the H:/drive or thumb drive in computer labs with All-in-One computers. If the computer has an A:/ floppy disk, it may be used.
  • Earphones may be attached to computers for private listening.
  • Due to the Smart Printing initiative, all public computer labs allow printing of four pages per print request. Check your print quota frequently or ask a Lab Assistant for more information.
