Fundamentals of Project Management

We are in a "rapidly changing face" of world interaction which has had a profound affect on advancement of the practice of project management. The knowledge age has resulted in dramatic globalization of the project management discipline.

Project Management is: Planning the Work and Working the Plan.

A Project is a temporary and unique activity that achieves short-term objectives that are outside of current functional or organizational units.

Project management is science because it often requires the "hard" technical skills specific to the project; like planning out how to build a campus network. And it is art because it also depends on the "soft" skills like communication, negotiation, organizational ability, and conflict resolution.

This workshop will help develop the skills needed in Project Managers to understand the various elements that must be incorporated to successfully complete a project. This understanding is rooted in the premise that Project Managers must be Proactive in their efforts and fully understand the five phases of any project:

  • Initiating Processes
  • Planning Processes
  • Executing Processes
  • Controlling Processes
  • Closing Processes
