ICC Hosts Landscape & Garden Day on September 8
Posted: August 20, 2012
This year’s Illinois Central College Landscape & Garden Day theme is “Playing With Our Food” and is set for Saturday, September 8, at the Horticulture Land Lab on the ICC East Peoria Campus.
This year marks the 32nd annual event that will feature topics and demonstrations of interest to gardeners of all ages and experience levels.
The Landscape & Garden Day event has activities planned from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. and will include seminars, exhibits, discussions, and a plant sale featuring herbaceous, herbs, and woody plants all grown by the ICC horticulture program staff and students.
Those in attendance can take advantage of a plant clinic by the Tri-County Master Gardeners who will be on hand to identify and diagnose. Visitors can enjoy displays by area garden clubs, nurseries, and landscapers.
Youngsters in attendance can participate in face painting and other activities at the Children’s Corner, and golf enthusiasts can enjoy the ever-popular “Putt for Plants.”
The day’s schedule includes:
9:30 – 10:15 a.m. “I Can EAT THAT?!” by Glenn Herold, retired ICC Horticulture Professor – Hear all about the edible landscape you can create in your own yard, and we’re not just talking about the typical vegetables.
10:30 – 11:30 a.m. “Garnish from the Garden” by Chef Keith Shank, ICC Culinary Arts Institute – A feast for the eyes makes for a well-rounded epicurean experience. You’ll see from the “Gurus of Garnish” how any meal can become a well-rounded event!
1 – 1:45 p.m. “Ask the Experts” – Have your problems solved and questions answered by any of three professional experts. Any horticultural subject is fair game. Bring a sample to illustrate your dilemma if possible.
Lunch will be available for purchase from the ICC Agribusiness Club.
