Is it possible to attend the respiratory therapy program on a part-time basis?
No, not at this time. The program is a full-time committment with each day either in clinical rotations or classes.
Is it possible to work while going through the respiratory therapy program?
Yes, in fact, most students begin working in local respiratory therapy departments as respiratory therapy aids just after they complete their first semester of training. However, it is very important to note that students should not plan to work more than 2 shifts a week. The curriculum is NOT easy and it is very important to spend time studying.
What kind of jobs are respiratory therapists doing, and will there be a job when I graduate?
Respiratory therapist work in many different health care facilities. They may work in home care, nursing homes, research facilities or long term care centers. Most therapist work in the hospitals. There, they work in the emergency room, life flight, intensive care centers and general floor care. They work with the very tiny premature babies to the geriatric patient. Jobs are everywhere! Currently there is such a demand for respiratory therapist that many hospitals are giving incentives for employment, ranging from tuition reinbursement to cash sign-on bonuses.
