The physical therapist assistant is a skilled technical health worker who performs selected physical therapy procedures and related tasks under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist. The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) participates as a team member, contributing to patient care by carrying out planned patient care programs following established procedures. Duties of the PTA include the following: providing treatments for the application of heat and cold, massage; therapeutic exercises; mobility skills, including gait training; assist in performing tests, treatment procedures; observing and reporting the patient's responses to treatment; assist with department maintenance and administrative tasks.
All program coursework is completed at the downtown campus or clinical sites. Clinical experiences are provided in area health care facilities and determined by program faculty. Students can expect to travel up to 60 minutes for clinical experiences.

Program graduates find employment in a variety of settings including hospitals, outpatient clinics, long-term public schools system, and home care.
Salaries for entry-level positions are competitive with other health professionals with similiar education background.
