Health Careers
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the deadline for applying to the program?
Applications for Health Career Programs are accepted year round; however, applications for programs with a FALL start deat (all but Therapeutic Massage) have a deadline of January 1. Programs with a SPRING start date (Therapeutic Massage and Phlebotomy only) have an application deadline of October 1.
Is it true that the sooner I get my application in the better my chances for being accepted?
No. Unlike prior years, the date that you turn in your application does not affect your chances for being invited to accept a spot in the program of your choice. It is more important that your application is complete. For example, if you are taking courses with a December completion date or are working or volunterring in a health career field, you want to include this information in your packet. By waiting until January to turn in your applicatin packet, you may increase the number of points you receive.
Do I need a copy of my high school transcript if I have already taken college courses?
Yes. All Health Career Program require that applicants have graduated from high school or obtained a GED. It is incorrrect to assume that college already has your high school transcript or that it is not required even if you have already taken courses at ICC. You must provide verification that you have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
You will also find it beneficial to have a copy of your high school transcript as many of Health Careers Programs require specific high school coursework. Your transcripts will confirm that you have taken a specific course as well as the grade you received.
Do I have to complete the Transcript Evaluation Form?
Maybe. This form is only completed if you have taken courses from other colleges that you want to be considered for transfer credit. Your official trnascript must accompany the Transcript Evaluation Form. Any courses you have taken will not be equated (evaluated) to ICC courses without this form and your official transcript.
Are the checklists important?
Yes. Each program has specific requirements which are outlined on the checklist. If you do not follow the directions exactly and enclose all the required documentation, your application may not be reviewed or you may not receive all of the entitled points. Checklists are not included in the packet; they must be downloaded or picked up at the Health Careers Department (Thomas Building).
Do I have to go to an information session?
Attendance is not mandatory but is highly recommended. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about the admission process which will assist you in completing your application packet. We have found those attending an information session were more likely to submit a properly completed and accurate application packet. This is to your advantage as your packet will not be evaluated if is incomplete and/or to maximize the number of points you may receive.
To increase my chances of getting into a program, can I apply for more than one program?
Yes. You may apply for up to three Health Career Programs. For each program that you select, a separate program checklist is required and must be included with your application packet. You must meet all the eligibility requirements prior to submitting your application packet. Program specfic checklists are available online or in person at the Thomas Building at the Peoria Campus
