Dental Hygiene

Criteria for Admission

1 Graduation from high school, or equivalent
2 Academic placement test scores into READ 115 and ENGL 110
3 Two years high school science, including chemistry
4 One year high school algebra and one year geometry with grade averages of "C" or better in each course
5 An ACT composite score of 18 or above (tested prior to October 28, 1989) 20 or above (tested after October 28, 1989 or later)
6 At least a "C" average in courses taken at other colleges
7 In the case of students not initially admissible to the program:
  • Completion of algebra and geometry at Illinois Central College or equivalent courses taken at other colleges, or placement test scores into MAT 108 and placement out of MAT 105;
  • Completion of 18 or more semester hours of approved courses taken at Illinois Central College or equivalent courses at other colleges, including BIOL 140, BIOL 210, CHEM 115 with at least a "C" in each of these three courses (courses numbered below 110 will not apply toward the 18-hour requirement).
8 BIOL 140 and CHEM 115, both with at least a "C" grade, must be taken prior to beginning the dental hygiene courses (freshman fall semester)

General education science courses (BIOL 140, BIOL 210, CHEM 115, and FCS 110) taken before admission to the program must have been completed wihin 5 years.

A physical examination, a crminal background check, and proof of required vaccinations are required upon admission to program in addition to appropriate medical insurance.

Recommended High School Courses:

  1. Three years of English
  2. Two years of laboratory science, including chemistry
  3. Keyboarding
  4. Two years of high school mathematics including algebra and geometry
