Clinical Laboratory Technician

The clinical laboratory technician (CLT) is employed in the clinical laboratories of hospitals, clinics and other health care facilities to perform a wide range of diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures. The CLT works under the direction of the physician and/or medical technologist in the areas of clinical chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, hematology, and blood banking. Environmental testing labs, industrial labs, and research facilities also employ CLTs.

Academic studies are taken on the Illinois Central College campus, online and clinical experiences are provided in Illinois laboratories under qualified supervision at Methodist Medical Center, Proctor Hospital, OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Illinois CancerCare, and Veterans Administration Clinic, Peoria; BroMenn Medical Center, Normal; Eureka Community Hospital; Graham Hospital and Graham Hospital Association Graham Medical Group, Canton; Hopedale Medical Complex; Mason District Hospital, Havana; Saint Mary’s Medical Center and Cottage Hospital, Galesburg; Pekin Hospital; St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington; OSF Holy Family Medical Center, Monmouth, Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln; OSF St. James Hospital, Pontiac; St. Margaret’s Hospital, Spring Valley; Perry Memorial Hospital, Princeton; and Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, Iowa. Students in surrounding community colleges are encouraged to enroll in the program.
