Getting Started to complete a GED

[print] [back]

If you do not have a high school diploma, you can prepare for the General Educational Development Test (GED) by taking free GED preparation classes offered by Illinois Central College.

Our GED classes cover all subject areas found on the GED Test: Language Arts - Writing, Social Studies, Science, Language Arts - Reading, and Mathematics. In addition, students review for the GED Constitution Test. The Constitution Test is a required part of the GED Test in Illinois and covers the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. and Illinois Constitutions, and the U.S. flag. Students are given an opportunity to take the GED Constitution Test while they are enrolled in our GED classes.

Students who enroll in our classes range in age from 16 to 73. They have found that earning a GED certificate can be the first step toward meeting their personal goals and enhancing their self-esteem. Many of our students are taking GED preparation classes in order to find employment, advance on the job, or continue their education.
