You may not know it, but high school students can earn college credit while they are still in high school. Here's How!
Dual Credit
Dual Credit courses provide students with credit towards high school graduation and allow students to earn college credit at the same time. This coursework is easily transferable to most Illinois colleges and universities; however, as with all transfer credit, it is important to check with the college of your choice to ensure it will be accepted. Talk with your high school guidance counselor about the availability of dual credit courses at your high school so your student can get a head start on college.
College Classes
Your high school student can take ICC classes with the approval of the high school. Simply fill out an ICC application, and submit it to the Admissions Office at ICC. Once the application has been processed, your student can register for classes. Summer, evening, online, and correspondence classes usually fit best with a high school student's schedule. Some high schools will even allow your student to take a college class during the normal school day. Check with your guidance office to see if this is an option.
