The Illinois Student Assistance Commission administers a variety of scholarship and grant programs for students who fall into particular categories of eligibility. You should contact the College's Financial Assistance Office or the Illinois Student Assistance Commission, if your are:
Age 25 or under and the survivor of a police officer or fire fighter killed in the line of duty
A spouse or dependent of someone killed, or at least 90 percent permanently disabled, since January 1, 1960, while in the employment of the Illinois Department of Corrections
A person whose primary language is not English, but would like to become certified to teach in Illinois, and would like to receive financial assistance to help pay for courses required for certification
Special Scholarships Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship:
Up to a $1,500 scholarship for academically exceptional Illinois High School graduates in their first year of undergraduate study at any approved United States college or university. The award is up to $1500 per year for a maximum of 4 years.
Illinois Future Teacher Corps (IFTC) Program:
Provides tuition and fees for Illinois residents preparing to teach in identified areas of teacher shortage in Illinois. May be at approved Illinois public or private colleges and universities.
Minority Teachers of Illinois Scholarship:
Awards up to $5,000 per year for minority students enrolled full time at sophomore level or above. Must fulfill requirement to teach full time in the state of Illinois after graduation.
Illinois Special Education Teacher Tuition Waiver Program:
Available to students who are transferring to one of the twelve, public, four-year institutions in the state of Illinois that are pursuing a career in special education. Must be full time and agree to teach full time at an Illinois school after graduation.
Merit Recognition Scholarship (MRS):
Awards up to $1,000 to graduating seniors to be used during the academic year immediately following high school graduation for any college-related expenses. Must be enrolled in at least six credit hours.
Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois:
Available to bright and talented high school graduates who represent a rich ethic diversity for successful teaching careers in high needs schools throughout Illinois and provides scholarships to students pursuing teaching degrees.
General Assembly Scholarship:
A student might be able to pay for tuition with this scholarship if enrolled at an Illinois 4 year, state supported college and meets the eligibility criteria set by his or her legislative member. Contact the General Assembly member from the student's district for more information.
MIA/POW Scholarship:
Dependents of a person who was an Illinois resident at the time he or she entered active duty and has been declared to be a prisoner of war, missing in action, dead as a result of service-connected disability, or disabled with 100 percent disability as the result of a service-connected cause as recognized by the US Department of Veterans Affairs of the US Department of Defense may be eligible to receive this scholarship.
Nursing Education Scholarship Program:
Students who are pursing a certificate in practical nursing, an Associate's degree in Nursing, a hospital-based diploma in nuring or a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and demonstrate the greatest financial need among qualified students may be qualified to win this scholarship. This scholarship provides financial aid anywhere from one to four years. If awarded, the recipient must begin full-or part-time employment as a licensed practical or registered nurse in Illinois within six months of graduating.
Department of Rehabilitation Services Education Benefits:
Individuals, who have a physical or mental disability and have been pproved for vocational training by the Department of Human Services/Office of Rehabilitation, may be eligible to receive financial assistance through the Department of Rehabilitation Services.
Medical Student Scholarship Program:
Some students may be eligible to receive paid tuition, paid mandatory fees, and a monthly stipend of $950 through this scholarship. In order to be considered, one must be enrolled at an approved allopathic or osteopathic medical school in Illinois, and agree to work in an identified physician-shortage area in Illinois.
Allied Health Care Professional Scholarship Program:
Students who are studying to be nurse practitioners, physician assistants or certified nurse midwives may be eligible to receive $7,500 for up to two years. To qualify, one must fulfill an obligation to practice full-time in a designated shortage area as an allied healthcare professional in Illinois.
