Federal Pell Grant

The Federal Pell Grant Program is a Federal program set up to help students meet expenses while attending college. Eligibility for this program is determined by a formula developed by the Department of Education and annually approved by Congress. This formula uses information provided on your application to show your eligibility by producing an Expected Family Contribution - EFC. EFC is the amount a family can be expected to contribute toward a student's college costs.

Estimated Pell awards range from $400 to $4,050 for an academic year at Illinois Central College, depending on the student's eligibility. Beginning July 1, 2007 these amounts are increased to a maximum of $4,310. A student may receive a Federal Pell Grant until the course of study required for the first undergraduate degree is completed or until maximum hours are attained. A student may receive only one Pell Grant in an award year, and may not receive Pell Grant funds from more than one school at a time.
