Dual Credit
Policies for Instructors
In order to continue the high quality and transfer integrity of Illinois Central College's courses, the following policies are in effect.
High school teachers instructing transfer-level Illinois Central College courses need to have a master’s degree in the discipline or a master’s degree with substantial study (typically a minimum of 18 hours at the graduate level) appropriate to the academic field in which they are teaching. For career and technical classes, teachers must have appropriate work experience/certification. A resume, official transcripts, and employment application are required to be on file at Illinois Central College
Dual credit students must meet all prerequisites of the course (including Compass testing and/or ACT scores).
Only high school juniors or seniors who qualify may be enrolled in a class where Illinois Central College course credit is granted.
Dual credit classes must include all requirements outlined in Illinois Central College course syllabi, and dual credit classes must satisfy Illinois Central College contact hour minimums.
Texts can be provided by high schools or purchased directly from Illinois Central College; all required texts are to be used in dual credit courses with one exception: When a textbook or textbook edition changes, high schools have a one-term exemption to update textbook supplies.
Students cannot secure college credit for a dual credit class offering retroactively.
Payment for instruction is made to the school rather than the instructor, although dual credit teachers have Adjunct status at Illinois Central College. Compensation is based upon the number of students enrolled in the college class. Payment will not be paid to the school if all tuition is waived for the class. As Adjuncts, dual credit teachers are entitled to all Adjunct benefits.
All attendance rosters and grades are to be filed for students using an online process.
Dual credit students are responsible for payment of Illinois Central College tuition. At the present time, Illinois Central College exempts tuition for occupational classes and students on free or reduced lunch.
