Basic Employee Benefits - Part Time Staff
Sick Leave
Hours paid for sick leave days shall not exceed the hours an employee normally is scheduled to work on the day the absence occurs. Earned sick leave days are to be used for the employee's own illness only and may not be used as vacation time. If requested and approved at least 24 hours in advance, a part-time employee who has earned sick leave available may be permitted to substitute up to two paid sick leave days per calendar year for either a) personal business or b) to attend the funeral of a member of his/her immediate family (definition limited to husband, wife, child, brother, sister or parent). Sick leave absences must be reported to the Payroll Office on Absence Report forms, similar to those used by full-time employees, and must have approval of the appropriate supervisor. Each January, part-time staff will be notified of sick leave days they have earned.
