Basic Employee Benefits - Full Time Externally Funded Staff
** NOTE **
No benefits are available for externally funded and temporary full-time employees whose initial employment periods are for less than 91 days.
Benefits begin the 91st day or the grant renewal year, whichever occurs first.
Vacation Time
Professional Staff
Earned at the rate of 1.25 days per each full month of employment, or a maximum of 15 days/year, the first through and including the fifth year of continuous employment; 1.83 days per each full month of employment, or a maximum of 22 days/year, the sixth year of continuous service and every year thereafter. Earned vacation days must be used by the close of the grant year or be forfeited. They may not be carried over.
Hourly Staff
Ten workdays earned per year through the fifth year of continuous service; 15 workdays earned per year the sixth through tenth year of continuous service; 20 workdays earned per year the eleventh through fourteenth year of continuous service; and 22 workdays earned per year beginning with the fifteenth year of continuous service. Earned vacation days must be used by the close of the grant year or be forfeited. They may not be carried over.
College Holidays
Externally funded professional staff are granted a day off with pay for the following holidays (as observed by the College) when they fall on a regular workday. Eternally funded hourly staff are paid for the following holidays (as observed by the College) provided the employee works a full workday the last regularly scheduled workday preceding and the first regularly scheduled workday after the holiday.

The College officially is shut down between Christmas Day and New Year's Day, and full-time employees are paid their regular salaries during this period.
Sick Leave
Sick leave days may be carried over from one grant period to another provided full-time employment is continuous, i.e., uninterrupted.
Professional Staff
Granted at the rate of 1.25 days per each full month of employment
Hourly Staff
Earned at the rate of 1 day per each full month of employment
Insurance
Optional group medical insurance, including dental and vision coverage, is available. For more information visit the Risk & Benefits website.
Life insurance is provided in the amount of double the employee's annual salary, rounded up to the nearest $500. Long-term disability insurance also is provided. Employees have the option to purchase additional life insurance in an amount equal to one times the employee's salary, rounded up to the nearest $500 and have the option to purchase Optional AD&D insurance in various face amounts.
State Universities Retirement System (SURS)
Participation is mandatory for employees with a regular schedule of employment which is expected to be continuous for at least one academic term or four months, whichever is less.
Participation is mandatory the beginning date of employment. Contributions are deducted from the employee's earnings for retirement purposes.
- Full-time employees = 8.5% which includes .5% to fund Community College Health insurance
- Part-time employees = 8%
SURS new employees now have 6 months to make their Optional retirement plan choice.
Social Security & Medicare
Employees not eligible to participate in SURS must pay 7.65% of their earnings into Social Security and Medicare. Individuals hired after April 1, 1986, who are eligible to participate in SURS must pay 1.45% of their earnings into Medicare only.
Tuition Waivers
Eligible for waiver of in-district portion of tuition (not fees) for Illinois Central College credit courses only. Not eligible for tuition reimbursement for courses at other colleges or universities.
