ACT REVIEW INSTRUCTORS - MATH & SCIENCE
Description
Illinois Central College-Professional Development Institute is in need of part-time professional positions as instructors for the for the 2009-10 ACT Review program.
The instructor’s objective for this position is to prepare students for the ACT Exam. The class structure consists of 4 sessions of three hours each, twelve hours total classroom time. Students attend four evening sessions. Each session covers a specific section of the ACT Exam, one evening covers Math, another evening covers English, and likewise for Science, and Reading. The Writing Review is a separate, optional, two hour class, in addition to the four core subjects offered. The Writing Review is designed to prepare students for the optional Writing Exam.
Instructors will be teaching the session in the area of his/her expertise. The curriculum is already designated by the ACT Preparation guide, and is very straightforward. Textbooks, handouts, and additional outline materials are provided.
During the months of February, March and April, we offer ACT Review classes “on sight” at local high schools. These classes are held after the school day is over; usually from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Students travel to their own school and participate in this 4-part Review. In the past several years, we have provided the ACT Review at over 22 local high schools, serving over 450-500 students yearly. During the school calendar year September to May, we offer 5 ACT Review classes on the ICC campus in East Peoria. The completion of the four-part ACT Review concludes just prior to the national and state scheduled ACT Exams. Instructors are usually asked to teach 1 to 2 classes per week at local high schools and a few times during the rest of the school year. Ideally, ACT Review instructors that start teaching in the spring of 2010 should also be available to teach at ICC ACT Review sessions in the fall of 2010.

Qualifications
Four-year college degree, and/or certified teacher, and at least two years experience working with high school students in a classroom/workshop setting. ACT Review instructors need high school/college teaching experience and expertise in one of the following areas: math or science.
