CAMPUS SAFETY AND SECURITY OFFICER

Description

(Part-time, up to 29 hrs/wk)
Protect College personnel and property and provide a safe and secure campus environment; patrol, inspect, and secure campus buildings and grounds as needed; investigate and report incidents and unusual conditions relating to the safety of the campus community; respond immediately to emergency situations and take appropriate action to protect life and property; perform assigned duties utilizing authority as outlined in 725 ILCS 5/107-3, 720 ILCS 5/7-1 and 5/7-3; inspect and assist in the testing of fire control and alarm systems; maintain effective working relationships with local police, fire and emergency services agencies to ensure necessary assistance in the protection of the campus community and in the enforcement of Illinois criminal and vehicle codes; enforce campus traffic and parking regulations; direct and control traffic and provide crowd control and security during special events and as required; investigate and report complaints and traffic accidents; work shifts as assigned to provide daily 24-hour service; assume lead responsibilities and exercise periodic functional supervision of students and other department personnel, if appropriate and assigned; perform assigned security and safety-related duties.

Qualifications

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities. A typical way to obtain these would be:

Associate's degree in a security or law enforcement-related area and three years of direct or four years of related experience. Six months to one year of direct experience, or one to three years of related experience. Completion of Law Enforcement Agencies Data System (LEADS) certification within six months of date of employment.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of a safety and security officer.
ICC policies and regulations.
Illinois criminal and vehicle codes.
Self defense techniques.
Hazardous materials and emergency response procedures.
Traffic control and applicable laws.

Completion of Private Security Officer Training.
Completion of basic Police Training Institute courses.
