Professional Background
- Thirty-three years - veteran of law enforcement. Started in law enforcement in Chicago, IL as a railroad police officer, commissioned by the City of Chicago. Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.
- Became a member of the Illinois State Police, assigned to District #8 – Peoria, IL. Assigned as a member of the then first criminal investigation bureau – the Bureau of Special Investigation, which has evolved to be the current Division of Criminal Investigation.
- Was assigned as an certified instructor at the Illinois State Police Training Academy – Springfield, IL; a member of the Department’s Inspection Team, which is responsible for conducting inspections of the various state police districts throughout the state. Have received specialized training in criminal investigation at the University of Indiana, homicide investigation at the Department of Public Safety – Austin, TX, crime scene investigation by the F.B.I., questioned document examination by the United States Secret Service – Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, Glenco, GA.
- Was appointed as chief of police in Dickinson, ND upon retirement from the Illinois State Police. This was a department of 43 personnel, 30 of which were sworn officers, in a community of about 20,000.
- Was an adult probation officer for Peoria County, IL. Served as director of security for the Peoria Civic Center – Peoria, IL
Comprehensive Course Offerings
Teaching Style
My classes are conducted through the use of PowerPoint, which is supplemented by hand-outs corresponding the current material being covered. Lectures involve student participation and discussion. I enhance my lecture by relating to personal experiences I have had as a police officer.
Projects / Hobbies
As a board certified forensic document examiner, I conduct examinations of questioned documents for local law enforcement probono. I also conduct examinations for attorneys and other persons. I attend in-training seminars relating to questioned document examination. I am an active member of the Goldwing Roadriders Assn and take frequent motorcycle trips to various parts of the United States and Canada.
