Diversity Study Circles

By working and/or learning at Illinois Central College you make an important step to building an educated society. By joining a Diversity Study Circle you make an important step in building a climate in which everyone feels welcome. Illinois Central College is committed to this process of making every voice heard in building an inclusive learning environment. Study Circle recommendations will be incorporated into the college's comprehensive Diversity Plan.

What is a Study Circle?

  • A study circle is a group of 8-12 people from different backgrounds and viewpoints who meet several times to talk about an issue
  • Everyone has an equal voice and people try to understand each other's views
  • The idea is to share concerns and look for ways to make things better
  • A facilitator helps the group focus on different views and makes sure the discussion goes well

Goals of ICC Diversity Study Circles

  • To create a collaborative problem-solving environment
  • To give voice and ownership in the diversity planning process
  • To inform the college's comprehensive Diversity Plan
  • To further the awareness and appreciation of diversity
