Campus Safety & Security Services

Authority
College Campus Safety and Security Officers receive their authority through the Illinois Public Community College Act, 110 ILCS 808/3-42.1, which is sanctioned by the Board of Trustees. Sworn Campus Police Officers are armed and have all the powers possessed by County and Municipal Police Officers, including the power to make arrests and issue citations. Non-sworn Campus Safety and Security officers have Use of Force and Arrest powers as authorized in state Statutes 725 ILCS 5/107-3, 720 ILCS 5/7-1 and 5/7-3. The Campus Safety and Security Department maintains a working relationship with federal, state and local police agencies. These agencies provide support for criminal investigations, special operations, and security details during special events.

Services
The primary function of Campus Safety & Security is to protect life and property in all emergency situations and preserve the peace within the established limits of the college community. In addition, Campus Safety & Security is charged with the security of campus buildings and grounds, enforcement of laws, regulation and control of traffic, investigation of crime, traffic accidents, and other incidents; maintenance of records, identification, and communications within the departments.

General information such as building or office locations and classroom numbers may be supplied by the department. Campus Safety & Security registers vehicles for faculty and staff and maintains the campus directory. In addition, Campus Safety & Security provides the following services:

  • Alcohol and Drug prevention programs materials
  • Traffic control
  • Informative pamphlets
  • Lectures and programs
  • Lost and Found
  • Medical and personal escort
  • Emergency medical services
  • Emergency notifications
  • Vehicle Assistance
  • Escorts to vehicles at night

Vehicle Assistance
Campus Safety & Security Officers regularly patrol hallways at all ICC Campuses, as well as campus parking lots and roadways, to assist students. If your vehicle is disabled, please raise the hood and notify Campus Safety & Security for assistance.

  • Faculty and Staff parking tags
  • Parking information
  • Transportation provided to an on-campus location from a disabled vehicle
  • Headlights left on will be turned off by an officer if the car is unlocked
  • Gasoline is provided for vehicles out of gas at a minimum cost per gallon or transportation to the nearest gas station
  • Battery jumps available at no charge
  • Campus Safety & Security Officers will not change tires or do mechanical work
  • Towing of vehicles must be done at the owner's expense
