To become eligible for a degree at Illinois Central College, all students must fulfill the following general requirements:
| Submit a petition and required graduation fee. Students are strongly encouraged to petition for graduation during the semester prior to the last intended semester of study (i.e. during Fall for May graduation; during Spring for Summer or December graduation). |
| Complete a minimum of 15 semester hours in residence at Illinois Central College. For the Associate in Arts and Science Degree, these hours can be earned any time. For an Associate in Applied Science Degree, all 15 hours must be program courses from the second year and part of the last 32 semester hours earned prior to graduation. For an Associate in General Education Degree, all 15 hours must be part of the last 32 semester hours earned prior to graduation. |
| Satisfactorily complete at least 64 semester hours in a planned program or course of study (or the minimum stated for the specific Applied Science program). |
| Maintain an overall grade point average of 2.00 (C). All grades and hours of all courses (except courses repeated for a higher grade) attempted at Illinois Central College are used in calculating the student's grade point average. Individual courses may have additional grade requirements. |
| Fulfill all financial obligations to the College |
| Complete specific requirements outlined by the College |

Compliance with the Constitution Examination requirement by any one of the following methods:
- Passing examination concerning the Declaration of Independence, Constitution of the United States of America, Constitution of the State of Illinois, proper use and display of the American flag, and the Australian Ballot System
- Successful completion of POLSC 101
- Successful completion of POLSC 115 and 119
- Successful completion of POLSC 115 and HIST 203
- Successful completion of POLSC 119 and HIST 201
- Successful completion of HIST 201 and HIST 203
- Evidence on state recognized Illinois high school transcript that this requirement has been met
