GENTK 010 PRIVATE PILOT -- GROUND SCHOOL 3 hrs. (GSC)
Prerequisite: None
This course is designed to give the student a study of the principles of flight, aircraft and engine operation, engine performance, weather, radio communications, F.A.A. regulations, structure of the airway system, flight instruments, instrument flying and flight planning. The course is approved by the F.A.A. and qualifies as an approved ground school course.

GENTK 014 PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE FOR AIRCRAFT OWNERS AND PILOTS 2 hrs. (GSC)
Prerequisite: None
This course is designed for anyone from the beginning pilot to the aircraft owner who is interested in the maintenance of a general aviation aircraft. Discussion will be centered around the preventive maintenance section of Part 43 of the Federal Aviation Administration Regulations, and will emphasize those portions of aircraft maintenance which the owner or pilot may perform themselves, the records that are required, and airworthiness directives. The class will include demonstration on aircraft of the more important aspects of preventive maintenance.
GENTK 020 HOROLOGY, CLOCK REPAIR I 1 hr. (GSC)
Prerequisite: None
This course is a practical course in which practice is given in the disassembly, assembling, repairing, cleaning and oiling of the pendulum, lever, chime and electric clocks. The laboratory work is supplemented with lectures designed to give related information necessary to understand the construction and operation of the different types of clocks. Usually taught in eight three-hour sessions.
GENTK 021 HOROLOGY, CLOCK REPAIR II 1 hr. (GSC)
Prerequisite: GENTK 020 or department approval
This course will include more advanced techniques in clock repair. Topics will include a study of design and practice in building weight drives and pendulum regulated clocks. Usually taught in eight three-hour sessions.
GENTK 030 BASIC WOODWORKING 1.5 hrs. (GSC)
Prerequisite: None
This class will familiarize the student with both hand and machine woodworking tools and their application to home and hobby use. Construction and repair of simple furniture, joint finishing, hardware selection, and shop planning are covered. Materials and small hand tools are to be supplied by the student. Usually taught in twelve three-hour sessions.
GENTK 031 FURNITURE REPAIR AND REFINISHING 1 hr. (GSC)
Prerequisite: None
This course will teach the student how to do furniture repair and refinishing. The class will cover the complete field of removing the old finish, making the needed repairs, and applying a finish suitable for different types of woods. Each student will completely repair and refinish a piece of his own furniture. Furniture will be limited to an item that can be transported to and from class. Usually taught in eight three-hour sessions.
GENTK 033 INBOARD/OUTBOARD MARINE ENGINES - THEORY AND MAINTENANCE .5 hr. (GSC)
Prerequisite: None
This course discusses the theory of gasoline inboard/outboard engines in detail. Practical maintenance and minor repair procedures are outlined to prepare students to diagnose malfunctions and perform basic maintenance and minor repairs.
GENTK 035 MOTORCYCLE OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE 1 hr. (GSC)
Prerequisite: None
This course will cover the theory, operation, maintenance and tune-up procedures for the two- and four-cycle motorcycle engine. Preventive maintenance techniques will also be covered. Students must supply their own motorcycle for laboratory work and demonstration.
GENTK 038 BICYCLE MAINTENANCE/REPAIRS 1 hr. (GSC)
Prerequisite: None
This course is designed to provide the student with essential information about bicycle repair. Specifically, the course will emphasize certain problem areas, including gears, brakes and tires. The laboratory work is supplemented with lecture, designed to give related information about different types of tools and maintenance problems.
GENTK 040 CABINET MAKING 1.5 hrs. (VSC)
Prerequisite: None
This course is designed to give the student an introduction into frame and panel construction methods. This type of construction is used today in kitchen cabinets and many types of furniture casework. Lab work will consist of making a small cabinet using the above construction method. Materials costing approximately $40.00 must be provided or paid for by the student. Usually taught in twelve three-hour sessions. (formerly GENTK 032)
GENTK 202 VOCATIONAL INTERNSHIP 4 hrs. (OC)
Prerequisite: Sophomore standing or department approval
This course is a vocational internship cooperative project designed to provide industrial experience through employment in local industry. A wide range of work experiences will be provided the student via the cooperative efforts of the participating industry and the College. .
GENTK 255 INDEPENDENT STUDY 1 hr. (OC)
Prerequisite: Department approval.
This course provides the opportunity to work on a technical project, research, or other specialized study related to individual academic needs. A written plan for the independent-study project is developed with a faculty member (including a detailed description of the project, the number of credit hours assigned to it, the evaluative criteria to be used, and other relevant matters), and the project is carried out under the periodic direction of the faculty member. The written plan is submitted to the associate dean for approval and remains on file within the department, together with a final written report submitted to the faculty member by the student. Repeatable up to a maximum of five semester hours of credit. Three to fifteen laboratory hours per week (equivalent).
