“A strong commitment to service has always been a major
focus of Phi Theta Kappa’s mission. The Society endorses
the concept of service to the college and community as a scholarly
responsibility. To most effectively concentrate the resources
of Phi Theta Kappa’s “army of scholars,” the
Society selects an International Service Program to become the
focus of service activities carried out by chapters and regions.”*
The Upsilon Mu chapter of PTK is participating in the Society’s
International Service Program for 2002 – 2004, Conquering
Cancer: A Prevention and Awareness Program. In coordination with
the American Cancer Society, the Upsilon Mu Chapter of PTK is
focusing on four major areas pertaining to cancer: Prevention,
Fundraising, Service and Advocacy. To learn more about our International
Service Program, visit the following website -

Cancer Society, visit the following website – http://www.cancer.org.
Service is also encouraged within the community through our adopt-a-school
program. Through this program we conduct school supply drives
and offer tutoring assistance to less advantaged schools within
our community. The assistance with tutoring that the Upsilon Mu
Chapter offers through the HELP lab on the ICC campus also demonstrates
our commitment to service.
Each semester we embark upon numerous additional service related
projects. If you have any ideas or would like to offer up your
assistance, contact the Phi Theta Kappa office at ICC.
