Many opportunities for developing and demonstrating leadership exist in our Upsilon Mu chapter of PTK, on the ICC campus and in our community. As stated in Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Development Studies, “Leadership is not a static condition. It is a constantly changing process of developing yourself and helping to develop others.”
We at the Upsilon Mu Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa encourage our members to take on leadership roles both inside and outside the chapter, spearheading efforts to make a difference for both members and the wider community.

Many leadership opportunities are available through our Upsilon Mu Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. They include, but are not limited to, the following:

Officer Positions
• Elections are held each year in April
• You must submit a short essay including the following information –

1. general background information about yourself (major, etc.)
2. why you want to be an officer
3. what you hope to get out of PTK
4. what you hope to contribute to PTK

• When a position on the board opens up during the school year the executive board can vote for a new officer

Chairing or Co-Chairing an Event
• All events held by Phi Theta Kappa require a Chairperson
• The Chairperson is responsible for coordinating all the details of an event
• The events can vary from setting up a concession stand for the train fair to simply arranging a group outing to the movies
• The current Upsilon Mu officers are always willing to help members learn how to chair an event
• Visit the office in room 302B or e-mail ptk@icc.edu to learn more about chairing or co-chairing event

Simply being a member of Phi Theta Kappa demonstrates your leadership potential. The Executive Board is always willing to hear your ideas for Phi Theta Kappa. If you have a favorite charity or service project and you would like to see Phi Theta Kappa get involved, please bring it to our attention.

In addition, two courses in Leadership development are taught in the Psychology Department at ICC. The courses are:
PSY 125 – Developing Leadership Capabilities
PSY 126 – Applied Leadership Principles
