Course Information, Course Documents, Assignments

These buttons generally contain most of an online course's content. The Course Information area contains the course syllabus and other "housekeeping" information, which may include a course outline, lecture schedule, grading criteria and course attendance policy. Other homework assignments, tests, quizzes, course readings, etc. are generally located in Course Documents and Assignments. Inside these areas of the course, your instructor may present information using several methods. A couple common methods for providing information in these sections include:

Folders
Folders, an organizational item indicated by the yellow icon, contain embedded, attached, or linked information. To review the information contained in the folder, click once on the name of the folder, which is underlined next to the icon.

Embedded Information
Your instructor may choose to embed information onto the Blackboard page. This information will be displayed directly on the page you view.

Attached Documents
Your instructor may choose to attach word processing documents, PowerPoint shows, sound files, etc.

  • Click once on the link to view the file in the same window
  • To open the file in a new window, right click on the link, and then choose Open in New Window from the shortcut menu that appears
  • To save the document, right click on the link, and choose Save Target As; then choose the location that you would like the file to be saved to, and click Ok

External Links and Links to Other Areas of the Course
You may also encounter links to external websites and other locations in your Blackboard course. External Links display a name, a hyperlink to a Website and a description for the destination. Course Links will simply take you to another location within the course. Links can be launched in the active Blackboard window or in a new window. Follow the directions under Attached Documents to open the site in the same page or a new window.
