The Collaboration tools allow Blackboard users to interact in real time. Chat and Virtual Classroom sessions may be recorded for users to view later. Both features require a Java plug-in, which you can download for free. These two tools open in a new window, which means that you must turn off your pop-up blocker in order to use them. If you close the Blackboard window, you will end the Chat or Virtual Classroom session.
Chat
The Chat feature in Blackboard enables multiple users to exchange information through text chatting, though no sound, hyperlink or file exchange features are available. To begin chatting:
Click on the Communication button in the left navigation panel, then Collaboration
Click the Join button next to Chat to enter a session: A new window opens
Type your message next to the Compose box, and then click Send
Virtual Classroom
The Virtual Classroom is an interactive learning tool. In addition to the simple Chat feature, this tool allows users to view and interact with websites simultaneously, chat, and draw and edit on a white board. Your instructor will give you further instructions on this tool if it will play a role in your course.
