Computer Requirements

Online courses and web-supported courses do not require students to own computers and have them in their homes. However, the student MUST have ready access to a computer to complete the course work. ICC has open computer labs available for student use during designated hours, check the ICC Computer Lab website for locations and hours.

Minimum requirements:

Access to a computer with word processing software and an Internet browser
A reliable Internet connection
A plan for a backup computer if your primary computer fails

An instructor or course may require additional software. Consult the course syllabus for details.

Browser Requirements
Internet Explorer 6.0 or Netscape Navigator 7.2 or higher are recommended for accessing Blackboard.

Customized Browsers
Customized Browsers may not work properly with Blackboard. If you use AOL (or another internet service with a customized browser), you should install Netscape or Internet Explorer, minimize your AOL or other ISP browser after connection, and then use Netscape or Internet Explorer for Blackboard.

Additional Software
Your instructor may require use of additional software. If so, you may need one or all of these programs installed on your computer. View the downloads list to determine what you already have and what you might need. Your professor should let you know in your course material if you need to download a specific plug-in or viewer.

Web Browsers:
To navigate the web, a web browser is required. PCs generally have Microsoft Internet Explorer; however there are advantages to downloading other browsers. The following web browsers are available for download:
