Locals shine in Canada

SURREY, British Columbia - Illinois Central College player Amy Gordon went 2-for-2 and had a double Tuesday as the NJCAA All-Star team beat the Illinois Elite Force 11-0 in three innings in the Canada Cup softball tournament.

The All-Stars later dropped a 9-1 five-inning decision to the Stratford (Conn.) Brakettes, the reigning ASA women's national champions. Gordon went 0-for-2.

Also Tuesday, Crystl Buston hit a first-inning grand slam and the USA national team handed the Bloomington Lady Hearts a 9-2 loss.

Olympia High School graduate Tricia Gaither drove in a run for the Hearts. Illinois Valley Central grad Brynn Hasse and ex-ICC player Shae Wesley each had a hit for the Hearts, 3-2 in the tournament.
