EAST PEORIA - Former Illinois Central College softball player Sarah Corey was named the female recipient of the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators Scholar-Athlete Award for 2002-2003.

Corey, who played two seasons for ICC, will continue her softball career next year at Quincy University.

An accounting major, Corey maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average at ICC. She previously earned academic all-American honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

A pitcher and infielder for the Cougars, Corey earned all-Region XXIV and all-Midwest Region second-team honors following her freshman season at ICC.

Corey, a 2001 graduate of Industry High School, is the first ICC athlete to win the honor.

The male scholar-athlete of the year was baseball player Joseph Holland from Blinn College in Brenham, Texas.
