EAST PEORIA - Illinois Central College softball player Shayna Bradford was named a first-team junior college Division I all-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Bradford, who split time between catcher and left field for the Cougars, was listed at the designated player/utility position.

The Bradley signee was the only player from an Illinois school on the 15-player first team.

Bradford batted .432 with four home runs, 19 doubles and 38 RBIs as a sophomore.

She improved her batting average by 100 points from her freshman season, when she also batted No. 3 in the ICC order.

"We play very strong competition and Shayna hit everyone," ICC coach Marty Pump said of the East Peoria High School graduate.

"She has really worked hard on her game in all aspects. I couldn't be more happy for a good person and a good player."

The most recent ICC first-team all-American in softball was Nicole Kurth, a member of the 1999 NJCAA team.
