AthleticsNews[print] [athletics home] [sports news home] Another ICC men’s side with heavy local flavor
August 19, 2009 Coming off three straight trips to nationals, ICC finished 13-8 last season, bowing out in the Region XXIV tournament semifinals with a 5-3 shootout loss to top-seeded Parkland. ICC was the only team to beat Parkland during the regular season with a 1-0 victory in late September. ICC had eight former area prep players last season. Among the three sophomores lost was Dunlap product Scott Nace, who ranked 25th in the nation in scoring with 13 goals and 15 assists. ICC filled the void with December signings of four local high school standouts. Two-time Journal Star All-Area performer Ben Ralph joins ICC after helping Notre Dame win the first-ever Class 2A state title. Richwoods’ David Benavidez comes in after an 18-goal, 13-assist season in which he was named first-team all-conference. Morton donated two of its standouts in Devin Frietag and Nathan Imig. Frietag had 14 goals and nine assists for the Potters last season while Imig was a defensive stopper. ICC opens its season with a 7 p.m. home contest Aug. 28 against Northern Iowa Area Community College. The Cougars then embark on a four-game road swing before back-to-back home contests with Lincoln Land C.C. and Lincoln College. All home games will be played at EastSide Centre. |
