EAST PEORIA — The Illinois Central College defense was in postseason form Wednesday night in Region XXIV quarterfinal action at Lorene Ramsey Gymnasium.

The fourth-seeded Cougars forced 20 turnovers by John Wood and converted those miscues into 32 points en route to a 73-48 victory.

ICC (25-6) plays the winner of top-seeded Lewis & Clark and No. 8 Shawnee at 4 p.m. Saturday in a Region XXIV semifinal at Illinois College in Jacksonville.

The Cougars were led by Sydney Stahlberg’s game-high 21 points, and got points scored from 10 other players. ICC’s depth was a key and it showed — the Cougars outscored the Trail Blazers 32-15 in bench points.

ICC shot 65 percent from the field in the field in the first half in building a 31-23 lead at intermission. The torrid shooting continued in the second half when the Cougars went 16-for-33 from the field to stretch their lead.

Sara Hamilton had six of ICC’s 22 assists and matched Courtney Williams with a team-high six rebounds.
