EAST PEORIA — In an effort to get “the old Jimmy Kuban” back, Illinois Central College basketball coach Tony Wysinger moved the sophomore from point guard to shooting guard.

“It doesn’t bother me,” Kuban said. “I’m looking to score more, which obviously makes me happy, and it makes coach happy too.”

Both men had reason to smile on Wednesday night as Kuban scored 19 second-half points to help the host Cougars top No. 11-ranked Lincoln, 73-63, at Lorene Ramsey Gymnasium.

Lincoln built a 37-28 halftime lead behind 16 points from Darius Adams, who finished with a game-high 25.

“Our guys were so amped up, we weren’t running our offense,” Wysinger said. “Guys were just looking out for themselves.”

Kuban, however, quickly erased that halftime deficit by scoring 11 in the opening 10 minutes of the second half. He finished the ballgamewith 23 points.

“Kids play with confidence and that’s what it was for him,” Lincoln College coach Kirk Whiteman said. “He was an all-American out there. But I thought we weathered that run pretty well.”

Lincoln eventually built the lead back to nine, 57-48, but ICC responded with a 12-point run, capped by a 3-pointer by John Washington and a layup by Michael Campbell.

That surge was part of a 25-6 push as the fifteenth-ranked Cougars closed out their the Mid-West Athletic Conference win. ICC (20-6, 10-2) finished the season 10-0 at home, just the second time that has happened in school history.

Manual grad Cortez Augusta scored 11 points for Lincoln (17-7, 9-1).
