EAST PEORIA — Illinois Central College held it together on Saturday to notch a 65-53 victory over Danville Area Community College.

“It’s a tough team to guard because they run that Memphis dribble-drive offense where everybody’s looking to get to the or pull up for a short-range jump shot,” ICC coach Tony Wysinger said. “You practice against it, but you don’t know the speed of it until you play against it.

“They weren’t making a bunch of shots from the outside and that helped us out. They were always in the game.”

Michael Campbell had 16 points and eight rebounds for the Cougars in the Mid-West Athletic Conference game. Breland McKnight had 14 and eight for ICC (15-6, 5-2) against DACC (8-12, 2-7).

“John Washington did a good job of facilitating our offense,” Wysinger said. “Derek Boyd had three dunks on lobs and all of them were spectacular. He can get off the ground and finish. That’s what we need.”
