AthleticsNews[print] [athletics home] [sports news home] Credibility carries Cougars to victoryHalftime lesson sparks ICC to 73-59 win over Lewis & Clark in MWAC game
January 21, 2009 Credibility. Or rather, playing CREDBL, which stands for: Communication, Rebounding, Execution, Defense and Layups. The Cougars took those words to heart and emerged with a 73-59 win over the visiting Trailblazers on Wednesday night. Wysinger was particularly frustrated with the last part of the acronym. In the first half, the Cougars (14-6, 4-2) missed 12 layups. “You have to make layups,” Wysinger said. “And in the second half we did a much better job and ended up shooting 50 percent from the floor.” The improved shooting helped the Cougars turn a 30-28 halftime lead into a double-digit cushion early in the second half thanks to an 8-0 push. Michael Campbell started the run with a layup, and a putback sandwiched around a layup by Breland McKnight. Earl Thomas capped the spurt with a pair of free throws. “Those three — Campbell, McKnight and Thomas — did a great job with their physical play inside,” L&C coach Doug Stotler said. “They really kept us off the boards.” Thomas finished with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. He also had five assists and three steals. McKnight, who was ineligible for the first semester, led the Cougars with 14 points and five boards. “Just a great game by Earl,” Wysinger said. “And it’s good to have Breland back. “Those two did what we expected them to do.” Nakeem Floyd led L&C with 11 points. |
