CUBA — Breland McKnight scored 18 points and teammate Earl Thomas added 17 Sunday to lead the Illinois Central College men’s basketball team to a 95-71 victory at Spoon River.

Nearly everybody got in on the fun for the Cougars (13-6, 3-2 Mid-West Athletic Conference) as eleven different players contributed points in the win.

“To me, the biggest key for us was the play of our guards Nick Morgan and John Washington,” ICC coach Tony Wysinger said. “They did a great job of getting everybody involved and when someone had a hot hand, they made sure to get the ball to them.”

Leading 27-23 midway through the first half, the Cougars buried three consecutive 3-pointers to put the Mudcats (1-16, 0-5) in the rearview mirror.

Zach Heinold, who sank eight 3s in ICC’s victory over Shawnee on Saturday, fueled the rally by knocking down two of his four treys on the day during the push.

Heinold finished with 12 points.
