AthleticsNews[print] [athletics home] [sports news home] Shooting and steals propel ICC womenCougars hit 18 3s, force 33 turnovers in 116-37 victory over Shawnee
January 17, 2009 "We have all kinds of shooters," ICC coach Steve Garber said as all but one of players scored. All told, six Cougars scored in double figures led by Taylor Welch’s 23 points. Sarah Hamilton, a Washington grad who will be playing softball in the spring, scored a point for every minute she played. She played 20 minutes and scored 20 on 8-for-13 shooting, grabbed nine rebounds and five steals. "I just found my groove," Hamilton said. "And once we get going (offensively), we’re hard to stop." ICC, winners of three streak and seven of its last eight, posted some pretty impressive numbers, hitting 18 3-pointers. The Cougars also assisted on 31 of their 38 field goals including six from Shandi Martin. "We might have had some rust," said Garber, whose squad had 10 days off. "But once we got that off, we should we had some shooters." Shawnee shot 31 percent from the field and committed 33 turnovers, 20 of which were ICC steals. Haley Jones scored 13 points. Sydeny Stahlberg added 12. |
