QUINCY — Illinois Central College basketball coach Tony Wysinger can't figure out how his Cougars lost at John Wood, 72-68, on Saturday night.

'You shoot 74 times to 48 times (for JW) and force 38 turnovers, you should win the game,' T-Wy explained after his group's Mid-West Athletic Conference opener.

John Washington and Marious Lobdell each had 10 points to lead ICC (10-5, 0-1), which shot 26-for-74 from the field, 3-for-16 on 3-pointers.

The Cougars made 14 steals. Lobdell had four steals and Marcus Acree three for ICC.

'Nine or 10 times we caused a turnover, then made a turnover,' said Wysinger, who will practice his charges at 8 this morning. 'It comes down to mental toughness and that's something we need to work on.'

The Trail Blazers were 24-for-48 from the field and outrebounded the Cougars 56-28. Farmington product Josh Watznauer had five points and five rebounds for JW (7-7, 1-1).

OLNEY — Defense created offense for the second-ranked Cougars in an 80-50 victory at Olney College.

'We pressured them into turnovers and that turned into points,' said ICC (13-3) coach Steve Garber, whose club made 15 steals. 'We got a lot of freebies off turnovers.'

Mandy Kirby had five swipes for the Cougars. Sydney Stahlberg had 15 points, five rebounds and two steals to lead ICC.
