ST. LOUIS — The Illinois Central College men's basketball team started its game with North Arkansas late on Friday because the Cougars's bus broke down on the way to St. Louis and the Forest Park Classic.

But the Cougars overcame their difficulties on the way to an 80-77 win.

Earl Thomas led ICC with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

'He's had a couple of good games,' said ICC coach Tony Wysinger. 'He kept us in the game the first half.'

Anthony Jones and Jimmy Kuban added 12 points each for the Cougars (9-3).

Caleb Cooper led North Arkansas with 30 points.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA — Kirkwood, the defending Division II national champion, rode a hot-shooting effort to a 69-49 win over ICC.

The Eagles finished the game shooting a blistering 27-for-51 (52.9 percent) from the field.

'We gave up some uncontested layups that just never should have happened,' ICC coach Steve Garber said. 'We just weren't prepared for their attacks to the basket.'

'But they're a sophomore-laden team and we've got a lot of freshman. This was a good experience for our kids.'

While the host Eagles were hot, the Cougars were not.

ICC shot 16-for-54 (29.6 percent) from the field, including 9-of-30 from 3-point range.

Nicole Holman scored 13 and had three steals to lead Kirkwood, while freshman Haley Jones, a Knoxville alum, scored 11 to pace ICC. Sophomore forward Kathleen Donoho added 10 for the Cougars.
