Brett Kelley

Brett Kelley, Head Coach

Morton native Brett Kelley begins his seventh season as Head Baseball Coach at Illinois Central College. ICC looks to improve on a 31-26 season last year that included a 3rd place finish in the Mid-West Athletic Conference and a Region XXIV Runner-Up finish. In 2007, ICC extended its streak to 8 consecutive seasons with a .500 finish or higher in the conference.

Kelley began his collegiate coaching career in the fall of 2000. He served as pitching coach and strength and conditioning coordinator. In August of 2001, Kelley was elevated to Interim Head Coach. After the 2002 season he was named Head Baseball Coach. He was voted Conference Coach of the Year after the 2005 season in which the Cougars won the league with a 22-2 conference mark. He is currently the all time winningest baseball coach in school history.

Kelley earned his bachelor’s degree in Biology from Western Illinois University, where he played football and baseball. Kelley was a member of the Leatherneck football team from ’94-‘97 and competed on two NCAA I-AA playoff teams. He was also a member of the baseball squad from ’95-’99 where he served as captain in his final two seasons. Coach Kelley also earned a Master’s degree in Kinesiology from Western. Kelley lives in East Peoria and is actively involved in the Peoria Sunday Morning League and is the manager of the Central Illinois Outlaws.

Doug McCarty

Doug McCarty, Assistant Coach

Former Cougar Doug McCarty begins his sixth season as assistant coach for ICC. Doug played at ICC in 1999 and 2000. He started both seasons at catcher for the Cougars after a standout high school career at East Peoria. McCarty continued his career at Bradley University in 2001 and 2002.

Coach McCarty is in charge of catchers and works with the hitters. ICC has set 5 offensive team records during McCarty's tenure, including hits in a season and home runs. He is also in charge of the Cougar's strength and conditioning program.

Doug lives in East Peoria and is involved in the Peoria Sunday Morning League. He is currently the Outside Operations Manager at the EastSide Centre Sports Complex in East Peoria, one of the finest baseball and softball facilities in the Midwest.

Mike Mason

Mike Mason, Assistant Coach

Peoria native Mike Mason will serve as the bullpen coach during the 2008 season. This is Mason’s second stint at Illinois Central College. He was also an assistant for the 1997 and 1998 seasons. In 1999 Mason was the Head Baseball Coach at Spoon River College. After the 1999 season, Mason accepted the head coaching job at Eureka College where he was the coach for two seasons. Mason is a 1985 graduate of Bradley University. He works as a political consultant and teaches Physical Education to the Optional Education high school students at ICC.

John Santor

John Santor, Assistant Coach

Coach Santor will begin his second season of college coaching in 2008. Santor is a former professional player in the St. Louis Cardinals organization. John played 6 seasons for the Cardinals reaching High A baseball. Coach Santor set hitting records at both New Jersey and Peoria. He was a standout for the Peoria Chiefs and helped lead them the 2002 Midwest League Title. Santor won another ring in 2004 with Palm Beach (High A).

John is a native of Palmdale, California. He and his wife Amber reside in Morton. Santor will work with the hitters and infielders this season.
