Tour of the CAT Dealer Service Technology Program

The Caterpillar Dealer Service Technician Training building, located on Illinois Central College's main campus in East Peoria, Illinois, was designed specifically to meet the needs of this model program. Ground breaking for this 1.5 million dollar building was held on August 31, 1998. The construction of the building was started on September 1,1998. In March, 1999, the Caterpillar Dealer Service Technician Training office was moved into the new building. The first classes were held over the Summer semester 1999 in the new training center.

The shop in the Caterpillar Dealer Service Technician Training facility was designed with a working dealership in mind. This shop has a fully-stocked working tool crib; over head cranes; transmission, air conditioning, and electrical trainers just to name a few of its special features. Caterpillar and Illinois Central College have combined the latest training advances with hands-on experience to present our students with the best education in Caterpillar specific systems available to date.

The Caterpillar Dealer Service Technician Training center has one regular classroom set up for computer usage and one classroom that is a state-of-the-art global class room with "smartboard" technology. The global classroom is the main classroom. This room will eventually have the capability of satelliting our classes and conferences all over the world to various Caterpillar approved destinations. The computerized classrooms create the ultimate classroom experience.

Three new pieces of Caterpillar equipment are placed on campus each semester. These tractors are "straight off the line" and we have the privilege of borrowing them for training purposes. At the beginning of each semester we receive these new tractors and at the end of the semester they are to be returned to the dealerships to be sold. This works well because it helps our students get a hands-on look at some of the latest Caterpillar equipment they will be working on in the future.
