Horticulture Club

PURPOSE

The Horticulture Club was established in 1976 as an organization for students with an interest in the horticulture industry. Students plan and organize a variety of educational and social activities that enrich the college experience beyond the classroom and broaden the students’ understanding of the horticulture industry. Through these extracurricular activities, students are able to fulfill the purposes of the organization. These purposes include:

  • Promoting the profession of Horticulture
  • Encouraging learning through experience
  • Developing leadership skills
  • Establishing relationships among members, other students, educators, and professional horticulturists

ACTIVITIES

As a member, students plan and organize visits to businesses, arboreta and botanical gardens, and garden shows. Popular trips have included visits to Chicago Botanical Garden, the Missouri Botanical Garden, and the Chicago Flower Show.

Students also organize a variety of social events as a means to relax and get to know one another. The Christmas Social and Spring Banquet are the most popular, but pizza and a ballgame are not far behind.

Members are encouraged to become part of the Student Government Association and take part in the many leadership development seminars offered by SGA.

Many of the activities are funded in part by sales of plants grown in the ICC greenhouse and Land Lab.
