Caterpillar Dealer Service Technology History
In May, 1998, Caterpillar Inc. released information to the public &
press regarding a partnership program in conjunction with Illinois Central
college to create the Caterpillar Dealer Service Technician Training program.
This unique program was designed to train students to become entry-level
technicians for the dealerships that buy, sell, and repair Caterpillar
machines and equipment.
Groundbreaking for the 1.5 million dollar facility was held on May 18,
1998. First classes began in June of 1999 in the new facility.
The Illinois Central College Caterpillar Dealer Service program is well
recognized and has been featured in magazines such as: "Workforce
Connection" and "Equipment World", which the articles spoke
about ICC and Caterpillar paving the way to a new and exciting learning
experience.
This program has also won numerous awards both through students competing
at VICA (Skills USA competitions) and through the program itself. That
proves that both the students and the staff care about taking big strides
with this program.
Illinois Central College's Caterpillar Dealer Service program is backed
by Caterpillar Inc. and the State of Illinois, making the program transferable
to a 4-year college and also making it reputable within the dealership
industry.
