Computer-Aided Mechanical Drafting History

The history of the CAD certificate program has drastically changed as has the drafting industry in the past few decades. The application of the computer to the drafting process has greatly inhanced the productivity of the drafter. Computer-aided drafting (CAD) has gone from a 2-dimensional format basically reproducing what was done on paper, to a 3-dimensional format in which parts can be classified in families according to the geometry of their make-up. The original certificate program involved a great deal of board drafting where the certificate now involves knowledge and experience with the CAD software as well as a general knowledge of the common manufacturing processes. The successful student will have a wide variety of interests and a desire for hands-on experience as well as a working knowledge of CAD capabilities. Today the field of computer-aided design is a fast growing and rapidly changing field with a bright future.
